Our Missions

The Northwestern Law and Data Society (NLDS) is the first AI-focused student organization at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. Our mission is to equip our members with the knowledge and skills to navigate and shape the future of AI within the legal landscape by providing valuable learning and networking opportunities. We also aim to inspire entrepreneurial-minded members to understand AI technologies and build their own innovative businesses.

Our long-term vision is to become a leading student platform for intersectional topics spanning Emerging Technologies, Legal Innovation, and Entrepreneurship at Northwestern University and beyond, helping our community stay ahead in a rapidly changing field.

About Us

The NLDS was founded by a diverse and dynamic group of Master's, JD, and JD/PhD students from Northwestern University, with expertise spanning fields such as Computer Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, Finance, and more.

Our general membership is open to students and professionals globally.

The Northwestern Law & Data Society aims to bring together interested stakeholders who wish to explore the variety of legal, regulatory, business, and ethical issues related to the development of new technologies, including AI. I am excited to help guide this organization, and look forward to supporting the Society’s goal of providing law students with learning and networking opportunities in this area. Considering the importance of technological innovation in today’s world, and the tremendous acceleration in the adoption of AI and other emerging technologies, the time is indeed ripe for this organization to become a productive gathering place for law students. The NLDS grew from the entrepreneurial vision of Master of Science in Law (MSL) students working together with JD and LLM students – thanks go to these students for executing on their vision and also for their willingness to lead. This group fills an important need in the Law School – providing a forum for learning and a haven for those who care about (or want to learn more about) these issues; I look forward to all the NLDS will accomplish.
